If you dont want to spend a fortune on a maggy,you can just use the points with a battery and coil ignition.Anything like a coil rewind wont leave much change from $500......The ball bearings aint cheap either.

An Old Guy I know has removed the Pull starter & fitted a V Belt Pulley to the Pilot Motor. He has an Electric Motor rigged up on a lever arrangement to start his Pilot Motor..

A lot of the Blokes in the local Engine club have similar type arrangement only with an old 12 volt starter motor modified with a small V Belt Pulley instead of the Pinion..
Sure beats Cranking them..

You can also use a B&S to start these engines..............some also convert them to direct electric start,but you better have good batteries and plenty of ether.
