I presume you know that those 2 large round plates are to adjust the big end bearings by removing shims and that the top end is lubricated by those wicks via oil you put in through the filler on the rocker cover, I am only pointing this out as that while it is nice and clean I can't see any evidence of oil in that reservoir. I have a McCormick 10-20 tractor with the same motor.Yes, good point, I had planned on giving it an oil change, fortunately there are 2 large round plates on the left side of the block that when removed expose the crank and rods, I think I can get my hand in there and feel around for sludge etc.
Picture of rocker gear shows it to be nice and clean, I do suspect the head has been off at some stage.
I'm trying to trace the tractors history, it's a very strange one being in such remarkable condition for its age.

I have these 2 books, while they are for a wheel tractor the motor and gearbox are the same .If there is any information you require from them I will happily copy and send it to you.

That's a great piece of agriculture history there KMR XT5, I'm glad it's been rescued, will need a comfy seat!
As suggested dropping the sump & giving it a good clean out is the way to go.
Good luck with the project, will watch with interest.
cheers

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Yep, dropping the sump is a must. If you need a new gasket and cannot buy one sheet cork is easy to find on eBay. It is a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild. That's a great piece of agriculture history there KMR XT5, I'm glad it's been rescued, will need a comfy seat!

Thank you oliver1950, that now makes sense why there's a cap on the rocker cover.
I would be very appreciative of the relevant information from your books.
The T20 is now in the shed, having big frosts down here in southern Tas, about six pulls of the crank and away she went, water temp came up on the gauge, looks like a small oil leak from the timing cover area, but other than that, all appears good.
