Let the games commence. 1st, build a transporter, 2nd strip engine n discover why it wad retired. Transporter done. Found the reason for its retirement, frost crack. Good news is I will weld the crack as this is a tank cooled engine so no pressure. Crack only on the outside. One fuel needle only stuck but this will be sorted, fuel tank is almost a write off.

I would think a replacement barrel would be a relatively easy part to get for one of those.

Typical me I welded it up with the MIG against all advise. Bolted the engine onto the transporter as well. Plus the Tank Gods were smiling down on me and Ken Smith dropped a beauty . So started making the base for it.

Time to do battle with the gibbhead key, known to be stubborn shits. Large slide hammer, heat n key remover. Thats where I left it for now under load. Fuel mixer has issues with a cork gasket needing replacing but the screws needed the impact driver to get them out. Then the centre shaft fell out of the breather that needs the new gasket. But these are easy fixes. Then the cold start needle was frozen rock solid so soaking then electrolysis has done nothing so now resorting to hammering the needle bolt head but the alloy knob may meet its maker

Cobbadog,
at least you know what you are doing.  I would not have a clue as to go about even getting it apart.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Todays Saga.
Well I worked on tge fuel mixer. Had to cut the spring to pieces to allow the alloy knob to move down so I could fit a socket on the bolt head of the fuel needle. Took some fetch but with some gentle heat inside that bowl it finally came out. So cleaned up the threads on both needles n tapped the holes again, now they wind freely in n out. Next was to make the new cork gasket. With some coaxing I was able to release the hollow brass rivet then cut the cork n drill 2 holes to size. Assembled the metal discs top n bottom, burred the brass rivet back over. Then to the lathe to make the reduced end a little bit longer to burr it over to hold the lot together. OOPS, it fractured n broke. So off to the shed n got a length of stainless rod n made a new one. It went together well.
