Hi,

Struth,
You've been a busy boy since October.
A bit of a tub and some polish? :o ;)

I note too that you haven't changed it much from how you found it. (As in what it could have looked like before you found it.)
Being a runner makes it even sweeter.
Very nice, well done.

Cab looks to be in good condition, a rare find.
Would she be an Albion Clydesdale?
Leyland were swapping bits towards their final demise. The wide front guards made picking out an AEC easy but then they started to appear on all models.
Road spray was the concern with the Ergo cab, hence the wind deflectors hoping to keep mirrors usable in the wet. We built wide scoops up across the rear of the cabs to bring air into the sliding rear window. Also stopped road grime splattering across the back of the cab.
Do you know if she originally had the hub reduction diff (replaced with an Eaton 2-speed) or was she factory built the same spec as the Comet?

Thanks for all your comments
its a CD65 Super Clydesdale with original 2 speed diff.
The aluminium wind deflector we believe were manufactured and fitted by S&M Fox.

There were around 100x Clydesdales (tilt cab) and Leyland Comets (non tilt cabs) in the S&M Fox fleet, the rest were Comers, and 1/2 Cab Leylands, so a total of about 250 trucks, it was the largest fleet in it time. The 150x 1418 Benz came in 1974

The graphics are getting made it will be fleet 203, dads 2nd truck on the coal in 1970. picture below is a Leyland comet coming up out of valley 2

This is a sales brochure of the Leyland.
The badge at the front is the Scottish flag
The Scottish built the Albion and Leyland rebadged them www.roadtransporthall.com/yesterdays-wor...rkhorses/1048-albion

Brilliant Resto. A sister truck has gone (abt year ago) from it's resting place near Quirindi to a collector at/near Wollongong.
The clear Perspex wind deflectors were fitted to all Ergos by Leyland Australia, not a factory item. Although there was some crossover the Clydesdale was an Albion and the Comet a Leyland, each built at a different factory with the respective manufacturers dna. The ergo cabs were made by Sankey. You might be able to get build date etc via one of the Albion clubs in Scotland www.albion-trust.org.uk/ .

The Albion ergo cab was lighter than the Leyland version due to a lower level of trim and possibly a thinner gauge of steel. The CD65 came out in 1965 with hub reduction and 0.400 engine while the later CD65B is listed as having the 0.401 engine, and it is possible the change to Eaton diff happened at that stage (or after 1970), consistent with a variant made for Israel. The tractor version of the CD65 had a front axle which was 4" narrower than the haulage version. Standard spec is 9.00-20 tyres.
Were the S&M Comets fixed or tilt cab?

Obviously rthf are content to write up the version of history they heard at the pub rather than research an accurate account. The other website has lifted captions (without credit}from the book 'Albion of Scotstoun'
