Hello All

Been a little while but have finally pulled the old trailer and stock crate out from behind the shed on the weekend -

Have taken crate off and put trailer in shed and removed floor, it has vacuum brakes, but i recall on you can swap the S-Cams around and fit Air boosters, any info would be great.

Also any suggestion re timber for the floor, i will oil it once timber is fitted?

It has 8 stud rims so may look at alloys and increasing to 1122 tyres.

The McGrath plaque on the rear has broken but would like to cast one up? any ideas.

Will post a few more photos next week

Yes U can convert to air mechanical
Vacuum mechanical suk the slack adjuster in
air mechanical U need to push the slacky out
swap the left to right cam shafts over
other problem is the vacuum have a very long suction stroke and the slakies R very tall to get the mechanical advantage
U may need to drill new holes to mount the air chamber n push rod down lower (may B 6"-8" (150 - 200mm) from center of camshaft

if U get my drift

She must be old ??
I've never seen a strap McGrath trailer, typical of the era was Freighter.
Should be able to find a small foundry that can cast your plate in allubillycan.

I'd reckon even before 60's ??
I knew blokes with McGrath semis in early 60's, trailers had those sweet looking pressed channel main beams.
By the early 70's McGrath was offering a "H" section main beam which was lighter than their pressed channel and also cheaper for the customer.
But you could still buy the pressed channel beam version.
Think their UB offering was trying to compete with Haulmark etc who had fabricated "H" section main beams.

Would have been early 60's, truck might give a date ? Trailer had already done a few seasons by then too.
