Gday All
I deleted last post as it was misleading , I try again.
I want to put power steering on my 63 AT4 SWB slant 6 (290 according to rego papers ) due to my body parts ( NOT TRUCK ) wearing out.
What is the most common parts from other auto to use for the conversion . cheers Baz

If its got a steering rack it didn't come from a dodge. Look at electric power steering, probably easier than trying to cobble together a hydraulic set up.

Some people use a 60 series Landcruiser steering box on dodges and inters
I put one on another brand of jigger altogether for a mate and was pretty simple and straight forward I thought
We used a XF Falcon power steering pump
I did all.the work my self with pretty basic tools and it took only a day or two

The power boxes off the little Jap 2/3 ton trucks usually fit ok......if you can find one.....I imagine Landcruiser boxes are expensive too........if you can get the engineering approval a rack and pinion would be OK,but very obvious to a transport inspector /cop if you havent got the mod plate.........the Jap truck box isnt obvious to someone who doesnt know Dodges..

Who knows, you might even be able to track down one off an AT4. Wonder how common they were.

A 12 volt electric power steering Pump off a Holden Astra, is often used in the Hotrod World.. Saves rigging up extra Pulleys Brackets ect...

If you work out the power steering or power assist please put it up , maybe you could make the rack with clamps either end , one end clamps on the axle and the other end goes on the steering part with the tie rod ends , that way you don’t have to alter anything on the truck other than the donor rack from the other vehicle. and if they knock it it takes ten minutes and you’re away ...

Yeah, I'd also like to see how they set them up (electric assisted steering), maybe someone can throw up a schematic, give us a bit of an idea??
