Cheers Everyone. I will try what I can tomorrow, fingers crossed I come back to you all with success on the steering wheel front. I hope to get the steering column out, pushrods back in and the lifters preloaded in the next couple days. Have to get a small hone sorted so I can then see what can be rebuilt in the brake/ clutch department. Do most of the homes do the same job or is there a particular one I should get? I’d like to have that all sorted by the end of the month.

Honing is generally a waste of time...there will be a ring of pits around where the wiper seal contacts,and fluid will weep out even with new seals....Likely there will also be deep pits at the end of travel in the cylindr both brake and clutch..........I used do an el cheapo resleeve using bronze bushes from a bearing shop.....under $20 generally for enough bronze for one cylinder........bronze .bushes can be had up to 4" long, enough for cylinders.......Brake places charge $100 plus for a reline.

For years I have had good results with the bog standard old spring loaded, 3 arms and stones and they have cleaned up the bores on some old mower engines etc and have done a good enough job. The only time one did not do the job was on that McDonald engine bore, then I had to borrow a rigid hone which sorted that out. So as a general rule I would use the spring loaded one unless there is a big problem inside and then it is time to bore and sleeve it.

if you have a lathe,the cheapest way to fix brake and clutch cylinders is to rebore them to the next size up ,and replace the pistons with the next size......some kits include the metal pistons,some dont.

if the cylinder aint to bad but needs a a slight polish etc
Use fine grade wet n dry paper on the end of u're finger
but dont use water ....but use Diesel

I prefer to use methylated spirits with the fine wet and dry and to rinse with afterwards.
