I don't know about too much power but the first diesel engined vehicle I ever drove was a friends 40 foot long GMC PD41 coach with a GM 8v92. (or PD42 with 8v91? old-timers disease is getting to me) It only had a four speed box and I had it up on the governor before I knew about it! I was impressed!
I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I know a GM sounds awesome, especially with jakes, but could you fit one undet the floor as a mid mount..? because I'd go deaf with it up the front ;)
for when I'm not driving the car of the century...
