You could buy a two stroke in 71. End of the line but still way over priced which was why I bought the AEC instead.
Lots of those big cab Commers rebranded as Dodge with V8 petrol or Cummins started appearing in 72.
I remember when this operator crashed his two stroke in August 72, he couldn’t get a two stroke to replace it, bought a baby Cummins ACCO instead.

TNT had a big fleet of what must have been the last knockers .....supposedly 150hp and full air brakes ..........they also had a lot of D series Fords with V8 Perkins ,with FORD on the rocker covers .....caused a few pub arguments there.

Yes I see the one in Lang’s post has airpack brakes. Think the last models had wedge type full air brakes.
Probably 135hp but pretty honest horses, not like the 180 lame ones in my AEC.

Dad had one with air brakes, it had the bigger motor, I don't know what that meant but it traveled ok with the 160 Cummins inters doing the same job, maybe he drove it harder I don't really know.

Carting identical loads in the 70’s, multiple times per day gave us an excellent comparison base for the brands available in our particular tare weight.
Two stroke Commer in their largest hp was best for economy and generally getting the job done.
C160 Cummins came in next, good value no frills light weight truck.
F86 Volvo surprised everyone, a good little performer.
After that the various Mercedes, MAN, Deutz etc had a bit more hp but were expensive to purchase.
Leyland and Mack were in a heavier bracket, more hp but not really comparing apples with apples.

I seem to remember Italian and Eastern Europeans liked those old shape Commers particularly for car carriers. Boy those car trailers were crude in the day,
