Engines have always fascinated me from a kid, at the start of the war we moved to a town with electricity and I would spend hours at the power station amongst the noise and smells of the machinery, nearby there was a prisoner of war cam and an Italyan POW made this model engine completely out of wood, celephane covered cutout's to see all the moving parts when the crank was turned, very clever, took some time, not a bad life!!

Glad the pics were of interest, never saw any Policemen, very few in the territory and the ones that were there never bothered anyone unless they were real bad, spent most of their time trying to catch some poor bugger buying booze for an abo, set a trap for some newcomer, 6 months in the clink, trying to remember if we had a wheel ballancer ;D

My Inter KB8 I was hauling carbon black from Melbourne to Sydney on the Hume, I had a door but no window, passing a semi on a narrow bridge going into Sydney just wide enough for two semi's, I would automatically lean over the steering wheel 'cos the mirror's would hit and glass would fly into the cabin, only small mirrors about 4 inches, can't imagine when the big mirrors came in.

Favouring the "no door" policy my brother (seated) decided to remove the entrance door of the bus, I don't think that was his intentsion, I was sitting this seat seconds before he took it out, seat and all, closest I have ever been to becoming history.

When Len Tuit got the Royal Mail contract after the war he purchased an ex-army Inter Ks5 semi used for carting troops between Alice and Birdum, opening a passenger and mail service, this prime mover was factory built without doors which may have put the idea into his head. :-?
