What size c line do you want to make a 4wd, l have transfer case and front end from a c1600 4wd. Podge

well an 1800 potentially, but I don't even have the truck yet. In fact I'm still waiting on news of when my HVCBA will be! I'd actually be very interested in your gear though, do you think it'd be a good fit? What's the difference in front axle rating betwen a 4wd 1600 and CD1820?

What are the important differences between 1800 and 1600? I assume chassis thickness, rear axle size and springs... The widths would be the same right?

Can you fit the 1800 spider hubs to the 1600 4wd front axle?

Roughly speaking, the 1600 Inter was a five ton truck and the 1800 was an 8 tonner. If you are going off road payload should be reduced. There were a lot of bonnetted Inters sold in the 60s and 70s and some of these were 4x4. I think the ACCO 1850 4x4 was only made for a couple of years ( early 80s ) .

yeah I wouldn't be carrying full loads off road, mostly just timber I'd milled. But what about on road, could it still carry its full payload with a 1600 front axle? I know the 4wds were rated slightly higher than the 2wd equivalent versions but by how much? Does anyone have specs on 1600 4wd front axle ratings?

I think the C and D had the same specs of 6000lb or 2720kg front axle, although rumour has it that it was actually a Dana 70 front axle which had a Dana rating of 3500kg. D1810 front axle is 7500lb.

I was offered a complete but rusty D1600 for $1000 on the weekend. There is one on gumtree in Tassie for $1800. Complete going trucks can be seen for $5000-8000 quite often. Some with rego.
They are out there.

From what I can see in one of the manuals I have the D-1610-4x4 came standard with a 6000lb set up (AFA-54) And had a ratio of 6,17 to 1.

Great link, thanks for that. As william says the D1610 has a front axle rating of 6000lb and 6.17:1. The D1830 has a 7500lb front axle and 6.16:1 rear. So ratios are good but that's quite a hit in the payload department - no worries off road but running it at full GVM on road might not be so good. Not sure what the RTA would think either...

On that link though, I can't find anything in the C line higher than 1300? All the bigger stuff seams to be acco...

The C Lines went up as far as the C1800 in bonneted trucks. This was an 8 tonner but 4x2.

Yes that's right, but they're not listed in that info link. So I can't find their axle ratios or front axle rating
