Mack Air Start - Question?

Mack Air Start - Question? was created by prodrive
Righto you fellas, who knows about Mack air starters?
The one on my R600 works fine- but all of a sudden, it's "changed it's tune" so to speak..
Now, instead of just sounding like a "mack air start", it sounds like someone has used one of those tyre "bead blaster" thingos. You can still hear the whine, sortof, but it's drowned out by the "air blast".
Got me beat! Looks normal, seems to work normal, (only get about three goes at it before it's out of air) but literally sounds like you've opened the big air valve on your compressor. If you stand beside the engine when you start it, it nearly deafens you...
So the question is, is there some sort of baffle that could have blown off / worn out etc? The "vent" on the bottom that I presume is the baffle looks normal?
I notice that the diesel lube line doesnt seem to be squirting as much as I'd expect, it's pretty dry round there, so I gave it a good drink of air tool oil, but that made no difference, only a mess!
Any good suggestions? Is it something? Or is it nothing?
Cheers!
Richard

Reckon it should have a muffler or road splash deflector screwed into the air outlet of the starter.
Edit: Whoa, 28 seconds apart!
If it's a 150BMP size starter the spring loaded thingy might be part number 10BM-A735 (well it was in a 1970 listing)
