What licence does a tow truck driver need to put a fully semi on the hook?

Good question there atki...........and it deserves a good answer....................
Unfortunately i cannot find one................
However as an uneducated guess i will say MC
But these days tow trucks may come under Fair Trading.....so maybe they are in a special category .......
I really don't know.................

Swishy.........Looking at that site i still couldn't see what class of licence is required to drive the tow truck............
further investigation reveals to me that, MAYBE, this is the answer..................
To drive a heavy rigid tow truck all you need is a HR licence................
If you want to tow a vehicle, then your licence has to cover what is required to drive that towed vehicle..........
ie...... to tow a fully laden semi ( on the hook ) with your tow truck you would require a HC licence......
a B double would have to be broken up to be towed ( i assume )....so you would still only require your HC licence......
But what about a road train...providing you didn't want to get caught,,that is... Just split it up i suppose,...............

As an aside, i remember KR telling me about times they have had up to 6 or 7 road trains on the bars to get
through a wet area............so i guess you do what you gotta do..............

................................How does all that sound for a WAG.......................

I was at Marulan northbound a couple of years ago. A hook dragged in a B Double and was pinged because it was classified as a road train in a non-compliant area.

These should be national regs now and take into account what is needed to get vehicles to a suitable unloading point or repairer.

National regs and national licences.........

Some time ago we were on holidays in WA.....some how the talk got round to licence photos.
Looking at mine , i realised it was due in a couple of days, (a five year job) The next town we entered
i went to a registry office to see about renewing it..........
They told me i have to go back to NSW to renew it..........mate i says.......it is a national licence..........
So what, they say ...doesnt mean a thing . WA just carnt help you.. You can do it by mail. and have the thing posted or you can hot
foot it back to NSW.........end of story..... but he says, you wont have a licence till you get that plastic bit in your
hot little hand if you do it from here..... So much for the national licence at the time..........
My better half did most of the driving till we got back to Broken Hill, then did the job (got a piece of paper
with the plastic bit being posted to our home...............
