Might be a story, but many will remember the same thing happening on Queensland rail.......both drivers on a tilt train decided to have their 10 minute coffee break together.........the tilt train crashed ,but the drivers couldnt be blamed ....said the union...........the drivers were entitled to a 10 minute break every four hours ,and nowhere in the rules did it say both drivers couldnt have the break at the same time.

The Q rail story aint a myth.........in fact when this little detail was leaked to the media ,the union was so sensitive, they called a 24 hr strike...............some say...not true ...all locos have a "dead man " that has to be be reset every so often..........nope ,the union refused ,and demanded two drivers ,instead......Damage estimated at $35 million plus.

My late cousin Peter was one of the accident investigators and he said the QR had ordered them to find a track fault as the cause ,when police leaked the details of the speed and driver s to the media and caused a major panic in the department....

I did the mathematics on this. Media went stupid on 'gross overspeed on a 65 km/h curve.
There is a huge gap between posted speed and overturning speed.
That train almost got around.
If it had been electric, the centre of gravity would have been lower, and it wouldn't have overturned.
The higher cog diesel power units brought it over.
There is a youtube video of a similar derailment in Spain. Even thought the train was way faster than the posted limit, the carriages would have got round, but the diesel power units dragged them off.
