RTO 609 gearbox ratios

Does anyone have the gear ratios of an RTO 609? I have spent hours searching the 'net to no avail.

I'm getting the feeling the 609 was not very common, the only mention of it i have come across has been on forums from the UK, and that was only general comments as people reminisce.

Thanks in advance, Brett.

Yes Swishy, that's what it is, though i don't know if a splitter was available for the 600 series. I think the 13 speed of the 600 series was all stick shifts.

John.K. and BillyP, thank you both for your trouble, very helpful.

I have two gearbox and two diff options available to me for my V8 petrol tilt cab acco, so i am beginning to work out the best option, but i just couldn't find anything on the 609.

.This probably comes under the heading of useless information ….but..... early days at Alltrans / Zacuba, the Cameranians
had RT 613 boxes . single stick with a 3 position gear knob. worked similar to a 15 speed. only all on the top of the stick.
(note that the pic is of an RTO 613 )

I have an RT 613 sitting in the shed attached to a 555 Cummins. Man I bought them from said it was an underdrive splitter.. Came out of an bitumen sprayer truck.

The 613 is quite different from all the bigger boxes.....the 613 is actually a 615......ie a 5x3........and unlike the bigger boxes ,the front gears cant just be swapped around to get an overdrive.....in fact the whole front "set" ,six gears ,shifter dog ,etc ,was f/n dear ...like $600 in 1975..........there is no splitter for the 613,howver ,gear tooth forms and profiles were changed around over the years, meaning interchanging bits is problematic.............the 613 was a great box for brick & concrete trucks ,as it had the lowest low ratio of any of the boxes....18 to 1........thats a bog gear.

Same shift pattern as the RTO610, has the odd 6-7 shift.
Like the OD ratio on that, my 610 only has .8 and would like a little more OD. May have to do some digging.
Cheers Steve

I think a RTO 609 would be a good box for a classic truck ,thats driven unloaded............no point having stump puller lows, better having usable higher gears..............the ultimate in overdrives is the RTOO 913,/9513....50% OD.......these were fitted to some Hippos to get up the 30mph diffs into a saleable roadspeed..........2000 engine revs to 3000 tailshaft revs........better have a very short tailshaft tho,or you will blow it up......as Ive seen done on some Leylands let to coast downhill.
