Alright you Blokes, i seem to remember many years ago on Windsor Road not far from the public weighbridge at McGraths Hill & roughly opposite the Abattoir/ Knackery. was a Big sign directing you to a Racetrack...
What was the name of the racetrack?? I can't for the life of me remember.!!!

i had a quick look on google earth & couldn't recognise a damn thing..

It was Windsor RSL Speedway. Located just behind the Windsor RSL. Remnants of the track still remain if you know where to look. Mostly taken over with industrial units now. There is a memorial plaque on a retaining wall on the corner of one of the streets. Directly opposite the speedway was the Prospect County Council depot.

.There used to be a dirt bike speedway track at Resovoir Rd Blacktown , just north of the current Blacktown
Workers sports club . Wound through the trees and was about one Km around. It was privately owned by a bloke
that did mechanical work for some of the top bikers of the era. They used to race there every sunday.
That would have been in the early 50s.

Still at Blacktown..
there was The Greens that was on the then Chapple Lane. now known as The Prospect Highway.

Some tracks came to mind after being reminded about Amaroo track, there was Oran Park out Cambelltown way or nearer to casula then Castlreigh Drag strip where we watched Smokey Oakey from Homebush take on Yak who had a speed shop in Beverly Hills. Back at the dirt track speedway tracks you soon learnt not to sit on the bends too close as you would wear the dirt flung up all over you.

I never met him but a family member raced there a lot pre my existence or just after I enter this race. His name was Phil Garlick.
Actually that side of the tree still carries on as there was a footballer who played for Eastern Suburbs, Brad Garlick (I think) or that may have been the Ford Dealer out that way
For what ever reason I have never met that mob.

Now it's time to brag!!!

I've driven Phil Garlick's Alvis on several occasions. It was owned by an old mate, the late Bob Robinson of the Central Coast and as vehicle inspector, I had the privledge of driving it on "Rego" days with our Club.

At the time it had no side curtains on the bonnet, deliberately removed so you could see the solid bronze head on the engine. Story has it that the original head was cracked beyond repair sometime in the past and a new one was caste in bronze. It didn't take long to warm up from cold.
What a fantastic machine.
Steve.

They were super magic machines too. ....................
