Wheel Cleats was created by 67mustang
Hi All

Just seeking some info -

My trailer has spiders which have a 5 inch spacer between the wheels, the cleats holding the rim in is 45 mil deep. Currently the tyres are outside the coming rail by about 30 mill. The trailer is 2420 mil wide

Im looking to go back to 4 inch spacers but will need longer cleats? is this possible or am i missing something?

Mark

mark, once upon a Time you could buy all sorts of Wheel Dogs.. but with the last 25 yrs of almost universal use of ten Stud Wheels, You might be struggling ..
Swishy Might have a better idea than Me. But try Maxiparts... they have a limited range online but should be able to source different ones... (maybe)

to take an inch out of spacer is a big ask
can U weld a bit if tine or fit rubber molding up under the coming
normally we have had success with welding a 5mm round on the the end of toe of wedge to work but U look n for an inch = big ask

You can get tubeless rims with different offsets, normal tyre not super singles

I think when some trucks convert from tubes to tubeless they have dramma with lower part of the rim hitting steering parts

Anyway maybe grab 4 rims to shift the inner tyre in towards the chassis, narrow the spacer down a inch, Swishman showed us this been done on here a while ago, weld some bits to the cleats and the problem is solved

Or maybe get some equivalent 8.25 or 9.00 on tubless rims should help bring it in a bit and trim the spacer a bit

Should be a simple answer

Only spacers I have come across are 4" and 41/2". Trailers originally had 9.00 rag tyres (on 7.25 rims?), then everyone went to 10.00 and on wider rims, and then to 11R tubeless on 8.25 rims. Takes quite a search to put a set of narrower rims together. I leave a standard rim at the tyre shop so when an old truck comes in with mixed width rims he gets an exchange and I get the skinny rim.
How much thread is left under the lug? This is the limiting factor of how much you can move to a narrower spacer. The narrower rim also has less offset. I would suggest experimenting with wheels from an old school trailer to point the way.

Gents

Current spacers at 4.25 inches, have got a couple coming that are 3.5/8 inches so that will gain just short of a inch. Have got cleats coming that have a 40mill tongue on them, that may only leave the need to bring in about 15 mill.

Next step will be to look at the offset as i suspect i can gain some here.

Plenty of room between tyres.

did have 9.00 rag tyres on - now got 11.22 5 tubeless

Cheers

So your rims have probably jumped from 7.5 to 8.25 and tyres from 9" to 11" width. The tubeless equivalent to the 9.00- 20 is 10R22.5, more often found on bus and coach and if i remember correctly matched to a 7.5 rim. Keep us posted on how the changed cleats go.
