Front axle loads was created by jeffo
Was sitting at the lights beside an 8-wheeler tilt tray.
AGM said 30t.
I did some sums and that must be about 13 or 14 ton on the steer group.
Seems a hell of a lot per tyre?
50 years ago we had 4t on the steer axle.

.
.The last Zacuba 8 wheeler that i was in (Ex Comet ) with load sharing steer axles got 11
on the steer and 16 .5 on the drive for a truck total of 27 .5 .............
That seems to tie in with that chart..............
Now that was with all sprung axles....... wot about running on air bags.. does that alter things ??????

From Lang’s info it gets pretty close to 30t when load sharing plus other factors are included.
Just showing my age I guess.
Still a lot to ask on a steer tyre. Wasn’t those huge steer tyres sometimes fitted.

Our tyre loads are quite modest, compared to European allowances.

Yes It was.. You're Actually allowed 6.5 Tonne on the Steer if you have a late Model Truck fitted with a Front Under-run device &/or a Cab that meets Euro Crash standards.... (Page 4 of Lang's Link explains It...)

Is that why the use 2 axle tractors (prime movers) to pull 3 axle trailers all the time?????I believe the standard Euro front axle weight is 8 tonne.
