Your better to die trying than live on your knees begging
Exhaust brake was created by Mrsmackpaul
So a while I bought a Jacobs exhaust brake to fit possibly to my E6
So my question is, how close to the turbo are these normally mounted ?
As close as possible or a fare way down the exhaust
On my little Isuzu trucks the exhaust brake is probably a good half a meter to a meter (depending on which on I look at) from the exhausr manifold
These are none turbo motors
So should I do the same with my Mack or should I clamp it to the turbo ?

I remember talking with this guy re his exhaust brake fitted to a VT903 in a flintstone. He reckoned it worked well. Looks like less than a foot away from the turbo.

Thats like the proper engine brake for a Mack
Still pretty useless like Dynatard
This is a butterfly valve on the exhaust and has Jacobs name in the casting
Like a European truck

I was wondering does it have a inpact on the turbo if I have it close
Or does the turbo have a effect on the efficiency and or life span of the exhaust brake ?

Do they even make VGT large enough to suit class 8 semi's. ??
Was thinking of installing an exhaust brake on my VT903 as I've heard 903's don't play well with Jake Brakes.

Paul, maybe look up Variable Geometry turbochargers (VGT) some good explanation on youtube regarding how they work with exhaust brakes on large US type pick up trucks. These turbochargers are designed with the exhaust brake integral with the exhaust side housing.I was wondering does it have a inpact on the turbo if I have it close

Thanks everyone for the feed back
I am thinking that it shouldn't make any difference to mount it further away and the exhaust gasses will be so much cooler by the time they travel a couple of feet
And it would make any noticeable difference to how kong it takes to work
Would also give me a lot more room to fit it under the floor than in the engine bay

Paul, my totally unqualified opinion is that the closer to the turbo, the more efficiently the brake will work. Less volume to compress, ergo faster and greater back pressure.
The downside is heat build-up and its effects on related components.
End result, stick it where it's easy to fit and maintain.

Why is this, I have driven multiple 3070s and Louisvilles with 903 Cummins and Jakes, never had an issue, have Jakes on My Kenworth K145 with a 903. What is the problem? Perthaps operator error and over revving?
