Looking back now, .........it was amazing some of the wrecks that we rebuilt............
Twisted chassis rails.... ( that were straightened at Boultons )........ completely wrecked cabs,..........
Bent diff housings ...........
Yep ......... the whole truck was completely rebuilt .........
Just as good or maybe better than what it was when new .....

Nowadays the whole lot would be thrown in the garbage bin .............

on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

Billy in a unmolested KW cab are the rivet holes all in the same spot
As in can you grap different panels off the same model cab amd the holes line up ?

Very interesting about the jig, very different to a Mack cab, if I look at a R model Mack they line up really really bad
They are (Mack cabs) are designed in such a way they can get away with it as nothing really has to line even close

Dunno about Kenworths though

Good question Paul............
Short answer is, ......... dunno for sure ...........but ......pretty sure they would be close enough to do the job ,,,,,,,,
depending on what sort of mess you made of the panel removal ............
In saying that.. (as i recall)...... if you bought a new panel it would be formed but no rivet holes ...........
We had sheets of ally that the body shop boys would cut out a panel with a template ........
Then roll the curves & edges. then drill and rivet as they went ...........
All the ally panels were either flat and/ or with the rolled corners .......etc ... nothing flash at all.......
Any irregular shapes , such as the lower skirts etc were fibre glass ...........
As i said ....good part about them was ,,they could be pulled apart to the last nut & bolt......
unlike cabs that were mostly welded together . ........

Kenworths of this era seem to be like Macks if this era
They were seen everywhere every day until a few years ago working still
Mainly tipper and local work
Then it seems like almost over night they all retired

Was this when the one piece fiberglass roof was fitted to the K 100 ?

Did thr Kenworth cabs come like Mack cabs to Australia

Let me explain that dumb ass question
Mack cabs came finished? As a LHD cab (talking R and F model cabs) and all the holes were drilled for LHD in the fire wall etc

Mack had template or templates that marked out the cabs for RHD
When the cabs were built up RHD all the excess holes were covered up and you couldn't tell until you pulled the truck apart

Were Kenworth cabs like this or were they all built RHD from new ?

Mrs Mack, my K125 has a one piece fibreglass roof cap, cab is a 1973, 76in, rest of truck is 1976 as per build sheet on torsion bars.
Cab was a replacement early in its life after a cab ram let go.
