My own Pommy view is as below.
Chinese 6 refers to twin front steer layout, or in German terms '6 x 2 x 4'.
The most common ones over here were Bedfords on 16" wheels used extensively for Beer deliveries to Pubs.
Low loading height, relatively long tray, reduced turning circle and safer front axle loads were the main points.
'Chinese' referred to anything 'arse about face' or similar.
Heres a couple. The Bedford VAL coach featured in 'The Italian Job' and 'The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour'



The Ford Cargo here is using the extra axle to support the crane safely.



We do not refer to twin steer prime movers as Chinese, only long wheel base trucks.
