Trev,

Very hard as old photo's never very clear to start with.

My belief is it is most likely a Thornycroft.

Here is a photo of a 1927 Thornycroft A2:-

Have a look at the thornycroft register for more pic's on thornycroft trucks www.thornycroft.org.uk

But I do stand to be corrected!

Trevor I think it could be a 1922 Leyland as I owned one that looked lot like this but very hard to see by the pic. Dave

Thanks for posting the photo. The truck was making a delivery to Gillpins Store in Junee sometime in the 30's. It was coming down Kemp St hill and failed to take the left hand bend at bottom and ended up against the Syd. - Melb. railway line. My mate brings truck photos in all the time so I will post some more if anyone is interested. A couple of things about this truck is that the radiator is bolted together like my Mod.63 Inter & is that a injector pump or maggy in engine bay?

Trev,

I thought Leyland also at first.

However when you consider that Leylands have a very distinctive radiator badge. And neither photo shows any badge attached to it. Also notice the photo of the thorny I attached. It is cast into the radiaotor the name. So could be very hard to see in the old photos.

Also on the first photo you attached there is a definatly a bottom tank which appears to be rounded at the bottom. And nothing forward of the radiator. which some leylands had extra cross member in front of or later ones had additional casting for mounting of the lights.

But in the end it is hard. As said in previous posts early trucks looked very similar. And can't really use the cab or any other details to identify them as they were made by coach builders outside the manufacturers. And in our case may have been built locally not in england at all!

But I do stand to be corrected!

I would think of English origin. The headlights look like those fitted to Leylands but were probably generic and fitted to a lot of vehicles. It still looks very much like a injector pump in the engine bay, maybe wrong.

Looks like a number plate on the front of the cab - 116439.

Any old rego records available?

And fiddling with the photo to try and see what's on the top tank.
