HK, but it wasn't young in that photo. I bought it as low km second hand from a colleague in 1983 (which is when the 1962 EK went). IIRC it was 21 when it gave way to a (VK? VH?) Commodore.

Not a Snowy-scheme dam, but it has to be a dam/lake. I put it up because my memory was that the bridge was a highway one, and hence trucking territory. I checked: the bridge is on a side road, not far from the highway junction.

Going well. Definitely Tasmania. The water is a dammed river, and has its own lake name. Either name would be a step forward, or the name of the nearest town on the highway, or the name of the tourist destination which the road serves.

Yes, Lake Meadowbank. It is the lowest of the dams of the Derwent River Scheme. We had spent the night at New Norfolk, diverted to Mt Field (but no snow), then continued west. On an earlier holiday, I had hitched (with a friend) across Lyell Hwy, and the generous driver pulled into Tarraleah for a view of the hydro scheme. On a later one, the highway was closed for two-wheel vehicles. I had my all-wheel drive Subaru, and am an experienced snow driver. I went through with no worries. Half way, I overtook a 2wd campervan. It was taking the drive with care, and was quite slow, but was having no traction or steering trouble. The snow was fresh, not icy.
Flickr also has photos of the bridge, once you know the name to use in the search box.
Back to Paul now for the next.
