Found this on you tube and it shows very well how the old Bias ply tyres were made.

Very interesting,thank you.
Lot of similarities in construction between the old and new, except its mostly mechanised now. Surprised to see final assembly of every tire by hand still.

Cheers Bruce. :)

All

Does anyone have the net link to a youtube type video that shows how how the pressure and temp rises dramaticly when heat is applied to the rim?

I saw it some time ago - a Yank production - done in a lab. they set up a mounted rim with a temp and air pressure gauges - then rometly - ran about an inch of weld to the rim.

The results were bloody amazing.

Any help tracking it down would be appreciated - and no doubt enjoyed by others.

It shaw scared me when i remembered back to welding lugs to rims to stop the spyder spinning!!!

The bit that worries me is the risk of injury at 300m radius and the time of up to 24 hours after welding the rim.

Yep they are all gone now old Olympic site in Footscray is all full of houses/units, Thomastown half full new factories and Somerton factory all gone. But sure does bring back the memories as I spent nearly 20 years working for Dunlop/Olympic and then Goodyear

That safety video sure make you stop and think. How lucky was I when...........
