The term Cushion tyre is a general description of that type of tyre through out the industry. These are solid rubber of 2 different hardnesses bonded to a metal band and then pressed onto the hub. These are built this way so to carry a far heavier load with less amount of rubber and a lower ground clearance for forklifts that load containers or are carrying heavy loads in confined areas. The next type is a solid rubber tyre commonly looks like the pneumatic but has at least 3 differnet compounds inside and are used to replace the pneumatic and make it a puncture proof tyre, add ballast to lower the centre of gravity and some can give a comfortable ride the same as a pneumatic but still solid rubber. Since I got our of the game they next level was solid tyres with hols
es through the sidewalls. This was done to use less rubber and a more comfortable ride and the one prior to thos was a solid rubber carcass where you only replace the tread section when it wore out. When you unfit the complete tyre from the rim the carcass would shrink and the tread fall off. Set the carcass up again with the new tread section held in place with "C" clamps and press it back onto the rim and the carcass grows and holds the tread. This was suppose to save money on all the rubber in the carcass, but forklift drovers being what they are would chunk the carcass beyond being able to be reused.
