1418 parking brake

1418 parking brake was created by Chris1418
My 1418 long nose had its ratchet cable hand brake mechanism removed before I got it, it has a 30/30 maxi booster now pushing on the lever at the back that the cable used to pull on. It is not doing the job at all. I was wondering if I could replace the standard service brake booster that activates the rear axle master cylinder with a maxi brake booster so then it would have a hydraulic park brake. Would this work or would it put to much strain on the hydraulic system, all the brake cylinders have been reconditioned and sleeved with stainless steel by Power Brake Services in Adelaide. Hope someone has a clue Thanks, Regards Chris

Adjust the cable up
Can get maxi cans with longer stroke if needed

Gday Chris,The standard 1418 ratchet handbrakes are hopeless- they used to jamn on apparantly. Although that's never been a problem with my LPS- I reckon it may have been caused by wet/moist bare metal on the pivot in the drums, added to a bit of heat when driving, then left sit for a while- the rust takes over. So the standard fix was exactly what yours is, a booster pulling on the old rod. My LP1418 has an eaton diff so it's full air, and it works well, but unfortunatelythat doesnt help you!
Put some pics up of yours too, "enquiring minds" as Swishy says..Matter of fact put some pics up of your 1418, I'm not the only delusional idiot here on the forum that likes em!
Cheers

Using an air booster to assist pulling on a mechanical ratchet brake is fine, however using a maxi to hold hydraulic pressure as a park brake is not considered fail-safe so is out of bounds.
