MorrisThey are a good box but he must be able to double clutch.

The Chevrolet Blitz gearbox will just bolt straight up. They are an easy smooth operation, even bad gear changers can master them easily. Only problem is if he has a tube type tail shaft might take some adapting.

Yes the one I took to Normandy about 10 years ago was atrocious in first but kept going OK. It was the heavy ute with truck type cab but engine gearbox the same as my new 12cwt car-based model. Straight cut gears that just get worse with age.

I remember the doctor at Westmead NSW where I grew up had a brand new 1948 Chev and it was noisy in 1st from new.

You can see why these whine in first gear. 2 and 3 nice helical gears but dead straight cut in first.




Morris. For your mate, here is the light vehicle 4 speed offered on the GMH commercials. It really is of no practical use as first gear is a crawler and you normally start off in second without a load. Exactly the same box as the three speed but with the added rear section 4th gear.

I know 100% STP works wonders. Don't think they have it any more but several replacement treacle products.
