That GMC go a good mention on this forum some time ago.

It had 4 wheel steering, and a flash computer set up in the back, air-conditioned.

That line going to the front wheel - was matched by one on the rear (same side) and provided for leveling the unit (deflate tyres) so the computer was level when operating.

Like someone has said - one worked in Central Qld on mineral exploration and maping by the Fed agancy it belonged to.

Revisiting an old post about National Mapping GMC.
