Hayseed, no just a full head job (not that type) on the grey motor. I think you were referring to the Waggot twin overhead conversion for grey motor Holdens that Merv Waggot made only a few of. There is one at the Birdwood museum in Adelaide. It’s in one of Jack Myers race cars complete with 6 SU carbys. Looks absolutely awesome, and in its day went like a dog shot up the ar*e.

There also was a single overhead cam conversion built again by Waggots and is on display at the Bathurst race museum. Somewhere in my many pics stored on the back up hard drive is a picture or 2 of it. One of the the other oddities of this conversion was the re-positiong of the distributor. Where it woul normally come out towards the back of the side plate this was laying down and facing forwards up near the water pump. Big and bulky and from memory also had a cross flow design.
Yeah, too many times had long talks with the cops there but that place was run very well with cars flashing the headlights when it was clear to race. As usual the problems only happened when they would not back off at the 1/4 mile mark. We were there on the nightwhen the God Squad member gave a sermon about not racing then went for a quick sprint down the road, didn't stop and sieved himself through a cyclone wire fence. Also saw a GT Falcon a few weeks old end up upside down in the creek on the way into Brickies.

Hayseed never heard of that SOHC Waggot. Be interested to see what they ran the dissy off after it was repositioned. There was also a Dunstan rotary valve head produced for the grey motor, don’t know how many of theses were made. Apparently only 7 or 8 Waggot DOHC heads were made.

I had 3 x inch and a half SUs on mine and found once set up properly I never touched them again. Such a simple carby once you have the right needles and springs, and just listen with some garden hose to your ear to get them all sucking the same.
