I think the idea of it all was okay but by the time it was built it was out of date already

From the book Big Lizzie by Ron Maslin. The engine was a 60 HP Blackstone crude oil with a 14 inch bore weighing eight tons. Fuel consumption being 3 to 4 gallons per hour depending on load.
When purchasing the book from the Temora museum in 1988 the lady at the desk said “ My Husband wrote this and the Man showing you around remembers seeing the machine passing through”

I get enough shit towing the caravan up the highway. Not really, aleays mindful of other road users.
I do find that truck drivers in SA n VIC all keep on the solid white line at tge edge of the road, I do the same plus have channel 40 on as well. NSW seems a bit different in that respect.

We went to the Bethunga Rail Spiral north of Junee. It's one of only two in Oz. On the notice board is a lovely pic of an old truck under a face shovel and a drag line up top.

Yes very much worth a visit doubly if you are lucky enough to have a couple of trains in the area.

Interesting fact about Bethungra loop is the $ydney bound service is scheduled 10 minutes longer than Melbourne's southbound service just to allow for the long spiraling climb. (not the best pics from inside train reflection)
crossing the tunnel climbing.
entering the tunnel.
Steepness of the track in the loop
Passing a Western Star @ 160km/h on the approach to Bethungra township. Odd picture as the lowloader looks to be carrying the farmhouse in the background.
I've been told this is why because of this difficult climb and tunnel the inland rail route veers off at around Illabo heading to Junee Reefs flat country.
The inlad rail route has to go via Junee as most of the freight train companies base all their drivers there.
Cobba, did you see the full roundhouse rail museum and the most haunted house in Oz both in Junee ???

Being a regular XPT users, that would be about right The timing of the daily XPT's both to and from $ydney/Melbourne usually are so they pass each other on a loop track just outside Wagga as once past Junee the track becomes a single track.2 XPT n that freight train went through in under an hour

Hi rok, we saw both XPT trains either side of the freight train. Discovered the freight was running 5 hours late. We have been to Junee Round Houe n it's the best. As gor that Monty Christo story time theme, unfortunately they did steal our money. Spoke to the old girl who owns the place n she denies it's haunted but says if believers turn up she won't disappoint.

Driving around in the HiLux bus, delivering senior people back home, I espied this rather quaint 19th century looking thing poking out above the roof tops of a light industrial area of inner city Adelaide.
WTF?
I had to return the next day to peer through the closed gates of a large warehouse size parking lot to marvel at this rather strange assembly of various tubular beams, wires, braces, poles, jibs and seemingly what ever else came to hand at the moment, to create this rather delightful lifting machine, (presuming that's what it is).
2
It all sits on a ground level platform which seems to contain a column of counterweights to keep it from toppling over (presumably) and a control cabin from which to direct its other movements (presumably).
3
I cannot ascertain what work it might be doing at its present location given the lack of any other construction around it but, WWIK?.
I suppose it may be an site specific design built here to test/ prove its ability to hold itself together and then perhaps be dismantled, reassembled and operated at some tricky unique location? (Inside a nuclear reactor perhaps?)
I can only assume that there is an extremely knowledgeable person in the field of engineering and mathematical design with a fully paid up public liability insurance policy willing to place his or her name and reputation on any certificate of fitness for this rather quaint looking machine.
It looked good on paper...

Pretty much a bog standard, self-constructing construction crane that you see on hi-rise construction all over any city, it can add sections to the frame as the building gets higher, the cab is not attached most likely set up for testing, they go through testing and certification before being set up on site.
