One of my Foden model trucks was looking a bit knock-kneed at the front wheels so I thought I would see what could be done about it.
There were two issues, one was where the long screws used for king pins had worn the holes out in the axle, and the holes in the front wheels were enlarged where they had been turning on the stub axle.
The wheel is aluminium and the stub axle is steel so I thought I'd see if I could make a bush to fit into the wheel to make a better fit.
First I had to find a suitable bush that would fit over the stub axle, I decided on an electrical connector as it was nearest in size, just needed a bit of fiddling to get to what I wanted
I had to bore out the connector with a bit of improvisation to the correct size of 1/8th inch, they only came in metric which is useless
To cut the bush to length I rolled it under a sharp knife with the drill inside to stop it collapsing
Made those up ok, and they pressed in the wheel nice and snug

Next job was the kingpins. They used 8BA screws for these, much smaller than any of the connectors I had, that screwed into the bottom of the knuckle and were secured with a locknut.
After a bit of thought I had an idea, I drilled the top and bottom of the hole in the axle to a depth of about 1/8th of an inch and inserted a piece of nylon tubing and cut it off level.
I was then able to turn the screws through the nylon making a thread as it went and into the knuckle.
Much better now.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Grandad,
That is pretty ingenious.
As I am told they say in India "You are one clever dickie isin't it" (as in Isn't it the truth)

It's great to see a toy that has been loved enough and played with enough to actually wear that much and to now so it loved enough to be rebuilt. Great job Grandad.

Magnificent.
Riddle me this Batman; Which is older? The Foden or the habit of using the kitchen table?

You've done well Grandad
What sort of scale are we looking at here, very hard to tell how big it is
It appears smaller than a Tonka truck and bigger than a matchbox car
