Kenworth VS Western Star

I've been helping mate out driving this western star. It has the 12.7l Detroit with the big head and open out to 580hp. The usual 18 speed road ranger. Air ride suspension and I'm not sure what diffs. It's the 2000 model and a dream to drive. Comfortable to live in. I'd take her over a kenworth any day.

A local operator of numerous tidy Western Stars :) have recently purchased a second hand KW T90? and have allegedly been swamped with calls from prospective driver's wanting to pilot said KW ::). Debo.

G'day All, Having driven both I can't find a lot of difference as far as the job goes... probably lots out there that will argue with me there.. As an owner it would be nice to have a flash truck with lots of bling etc but the road boss still earns as much per km as a new one would... Not pretty or even as comfortable but the earning capacity is still there. I do understand that prospective clients will be a bit put off by its age and question the reliability... However this is about KW V Western Star... Lindsay Bros have been KW for ever, not any more there are Stars and Macks painted with LBs scheme now and I hear that they aren't buying KWs any more ?? Could be $$$$ could be something else entirely. :) ;) :) ;) :) 8-) 8-)

Had a brand new 909 (ad blue 600 ISX) in work the other day with the Ice pack, and all the other bling (no hyd) come in at $360k

Economy is the main reason KW's are falling behind, up front $$$ makes the bean counters squirm.... and after all - its the bean counters that run most businesses these days - they make all the purchasing decisions... not the blokes on the ground.

The KW is mighty pricey new so why not a slightly used one for a much better price.
Provided you are aware of what your buyin.
My young bloke has had 4 KWs on B double work & always went that way.
Reckons he would never buy any thing new.
As for lasting ......well.........the KW is hard to beat, i reckon.
But it all depends on the nut behind the wheel. as,
Some blokes can wreck a new truck in no time flat.
...............Billy....

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

I have driven both on highway work, and for me kenworth hands down, about the same to drive both were good for me, but when it comes down to it the kenworth I had was just put together better than the stars I drove, kenworth are just to dear to buy now, it not just the etra 40 50k its the etra interest on that 50k that's the killer I find. I reckon they are built better but are they 50k better?? nup.
Now just to stir the pot we used to call westernstars K mart kenworths haha ;D
