Had a look at the other pics and think it is only edging on the tow path. Don't remember there being a lot of it but can ask the question of our friend how lives there.

Quite a few years ago my wife and I hired a narrowboat for a week and had a great time. We decided a week wasn't long enough so a few years later we hired one for two weeks and had a better time. A few years later still we hired one for three weeks and did a big circle, from Leighton Buzzard to London, then up the River Thames to Oxford, then north up the Oxford Canal and back down again to Leighton Buzzard.

Highly recommended if you ever get a chance to do it, there are pubs every few miles along the canals which have moorings for canal boats and they all put on great meals as well as selling drinks.
