Paint for Chassis - Which type? was created by berntd
Hello
Can anyone recommend a suitable/durable type of paint here in Aussie for a truck chassis?
I will soon be looking for chassis paint for my Mercedes LS315 (1956) restoration. The colour will likely be MB3575 which is a type of dark red.
Whatever they originally put on that chassis was quite good stuff and it is still difficult to remove in the places it remains.

Most universal and reliable system would be a 2 pac polyurethane over epoxy etch primer, and if the frame is marked a 2 pac primer filler in between. Nice shine straight off the gun (but the inexperienced can muck it up with either runs or orange peel - trust me I know!). What they used in the day is probably now outlawed in Australia.
Look up the Wattyl Industrial Coatings (which includes automotive) web site which privides all the ifs and buts and a scale of durabilty for each paint type.
