Sorry I don't have anymore of the firewall/engine bay... This is only other one I have that might give you an idea of the cab height.

Talkin to a few guys on the www.moparmarketforum.com/forum/viewtopic...f=45&t=18890&start=0 it seams the V8 trucks had the cross members in the chassis a bit further foward so as to bring the V8 away from the firewall. I think i will just modify the firewall the cab needs a heap of work anyway and it seams easya than moving cross members in the chassis and then having to change handbrake, gearstick and tail shaft and any other things that might need moving.
Any idea where the chassis number is on these old Dodges??? its got the plate on the cab and thats all i have found, do they even have a number on the chassis

The chassis number is on the plate on the left hand side fire wall marked model serial number as well as the chassis rail on the left hand side near the front tyre. On my 233 I moved the cross member forward so that the motors rocker covers just cleared the fire wall used the front engine mount off the AT4 took the long boss off the water pump and mounted the fan on the pulley leaving about 2'' to the radiator.Had the tail shaft cut and shut because the gear box was longer on the AT4 and made a bigger hole in the floor cover for the gear stick .(the gear stick has lots of room before the dash .) I would maybe use the hand brake handle off the AT4 if you do not think or find room coming up from the floor . The diff in the AT4 575 came out with a 6.2 : 1 ratio which ran a 6.00bx20 rim and a 7.50x20x8 standard tyre or the 575 H-6 or H-8 came with 6.5L x20 rim standard tyre of 8.25x20x10.I did have a AT4 475 a few years ago its diff was a 5.3;1 ratio would do 80 MPH Plus and pull like steam train but ran 17'' tyres a bugger to find rubber

I have a photo of the 361 in our 1071 Power Giant.
You can see it is a tight fit especially with the Westinghouse air pump and power steering pump added.
I think this was original factory fit and firewall looks similar to yours also.
How does one insert or attach a photo to replies?
Regards,
Mike

Thanks for showing the pics.
I am still not sure what I did wrong but will have another go.
The old girl still looks good and she is still registered too.
I pulled that horrible lazy axle off straight after I emptied that very load.
It was just an old front axle with welded hubs and no extra brakes either fitted by the old cocky I bought it from.
Since then the ratbag decides to run rough and with low compression I will have to freshen the 361 sooner than I thought.

you can run a lot of advance on the old 361s as they have a factory compression ratio of just 6.6cr ..when i "touched" mine up i took 70 thou off the heads (and machined the intake manifold)4bbl carb duel 2" exhaust . . it now performs like a modern truck (if not better)

Got hold of a D5N 300 with the Dana 70 in the back, have not checked the gears but it should be 4.88:1 which with the 8.25x20 tyres will gear it up a bit. The thing is, is it up to the job. GVM of my truck is 12500Lbs and the D5N 300 with 7.50x16 tyres is 10500Lbs. Is it just the tyres. As far as i know the D5N 400 uses the dana 70 as well.

Pulled the side valve out and now its on the floor have run a tape across things and have found the V8 gearbox puts the gearstick out 60mm further back than the 6 gearbox. So will bring the motor/box 60mm further forward and then just change the fire wall on the right side to clear the right cylinder bank and just redrill the front mount holes.
