Deadly,

I have heard of it and know of some people who put it in their water hoppers on stationary motors to protect against rust. Is this what you are trying to do with it or do you need to actually lubricate some parts in the Bedford with it?

Deadly,

it stops corrosion by coating the surfaces with oil. Not such a problem with stationary motors as they usually boil off their cooling water in an open tank or hopper. With a sealed system in a vehicle the oil can coat the inside of the radiator and can interfere with the cooling as the oil doesn't transfer the heat of the water as well as the metal does. Another told me the oil coating reduces the amount of wather that can flow through the core. Personally I would have thought the effect of either would be so miniscule that the cooling system would have needed to be dodgy anyway. I know it was used in some vintage and veteran vehicles to lubricate the water pump.

Why not use a modern rust inhibitor. It will also provide a degree of anti-freeze protection that may be handy in Dubbo. It got down to -2 when we were there!
