Howdy All,

Would any of you have an exploded parts diagram for the KW crow bar suspension ? Twin screw setup.

A bit about them way back here.

hcvc.com.au/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1218252924/0

I've got the full section from the maintenance manual (sect 17) BUT, always a BUT, me scanner has $#!T itself.
I'll see if I can get SWMBO scanner to operate, the cranky thing she got is a very strange animal, give me an hour or two.

Thanks Greenie, thats perfect.
Im thinking of using an old setup I have on a project but it needs abit of work and I was curious to see how it all went together.
Another question you may know the answer to. Rockwell SQHD 38000 lb diffs KW used alot with the crow bar setup. Is it a straight swap job to take off all the wedge brake setup and change over to S cam or is the brake mounting flange on the diff unique to the wedge setup if fitted ?

Thanks Greenie. I will wait until the Swishman turns up and see If he knows.
He might know the answer to my next question also. What are the gear ratios in a Spicer 1362-B six speed gearbox.

Me thinks U need to look @ this as 2 projects
Project #1 Change brakes to 'S' cam
Project #2 fit Torsion Bar suspension

:o

#1 when axles R made they can accomadate either Wedge or 'S' cam
check the diameter of the brake drums
cos I got a sneaky feeling th @the wedge may B 15" drumes n 'S' cam 16.1/2"also just a case of turning the backing plate to mount the brakes where U want m

:-*

#2 when welding the TB saddles on axle
DONOT weld across the axle
only weld along the axle

(welding across the axle makes for the easiest place to crack( Not th@ KW TB have had any problems th@ i no of))

The early KW had SQHD suare axles so to make easy to fir & weld make sure U aint got round axles

Me also thinks there were a few variations from KW of the TB Suspension

Swishy,
The torsion bar setup is already mounted to the SQHD axles. Its a backend cutoff from an old cabover but it has the wedge brakes I would like to get rid of. Thanks for the good tip re welding on diffs though.

Having done an old S-line inter years ago from 6x2 to 6x4 using an old tandem with wedges the first thing you need to look at is where the whole brake set up bolt's onto the axle I rekon you'll find that the bolt holes won't line up and it may be of a slightly different diameter.

We ended up welding all the holes up in the axle flange and redrilling them to suit and making up a very thin ring to fill out the gap as the S-cam backing plate was bigger than the wedge one........not a job I wanna do again

You might Laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same
