Lazy Axle Bedford

 

Not exactly a lazy axle.

I would have thought any undriven axle be it pusher, single or dual in front or behind, lift up or fixed was a lazy axle. Though IDSTBC.

Looks like a very lazy axle to me, Overnite. 
It appears to be a homemade addition, utilizing another steer axle  possibly with castor steering. 

I was always under the impression, that;
If It's behind the drive axle? It's a Lazy axle, &.
if It's in front of the drive axle ? It's a Pusher axle.

I was always under the impression that a lazy had dual wheels, and anything with single wheels was either a pusher or a tag, depending on location relative to the driven axle, ie a pusher in front of the drive or a tag behind the drive. BIDSTBC

Well I still think by definition anything that is not driven is a lazy axle. All the other names are just engineering variations of a combination of position, number of tyres and local usage to describe a particular unit.

Just to add to the discussion what type of axle is on the front of my Landcruiser? Is it variable driven/lazy according to the hub lock position? 

But what is on the front of of my BEAN? Got to be lazy axle! 

Then what is on the front of a Holden ute with independent suspension with no drive and no axle.

Then what is on the back of a Porsche with independent suspension no axle but two drive shafts.



 

When I was a boy and most of the time since, a lazy axle was one which could be lifted when not carrying a load. An axle in front of the drive was a pusher axle and one behind the drive was a tag axle, (tagging along behind).

No one has mentioned a 'silly axle' or silly wheels which is yet another variation on the theme. I am with Lang on this in that 'lazy' simply means it isn't driven.
