Don't know if this is a help or not, but we have a 6 cyl chev engine in a 1952 Chevy sedan - looks like the one you want but unsure of the engine size?

Bretto - The '52 Chev runs either a 216 or 235 cu in motor, depending on the transmission. The 216 was standard with the manual tranny, and the 235 was fitted when an automatic was fitted.
All GM motors look similar, they used the same basic design criteria for all divisions, from the late 1920's to the 1980's.
That's why an FJ Holden motor looks almost like a Chev six, or a Vauxhall/Bedford six, and vice versa. The same goes for the red Holden motors, they look like Chev motors of the same era.

These Chev motors were a pretty good old motor in their day, but they suffer from one bad design fault. The bottom end isn't full pressure feed .. the bearings rely on oil "catch cups" that project from the bearing caps, and which run in oil troughs, to pick up oil and feed it to the big end bearings.

If you hammer these old Chevvys, pedal to the metal, for extended periods, they chew out big-end bearings .. because at high RPM's, the catch-cups are grabbing air instead of oil .. because the oil doesn't get time to fill the oil trough fast enough between the big end "dips".
As a result, many a Chevvy owner has ended up with a nasty case of shot big end bearings, after a long high-speed run.

This design was common to most GM engines in the 30's and 40's .. and the Buicks (particularly the straight-8 Buick) suffered worst of all from this problem.

Thanks for all your help! Just wondering if the 214 Bedford and 300 Bedford engines are the save physical size ie just a bigger bore etc?

:)
