Hi Karen.
Firstly. Where about are you. Not much point sending you info on stuff that is 1000s of Ks away.

Secondly. What do you call a ute. In the 50s International made what is called a coupe ute as well as a pick up, which a lot of folk would also refer to as a ute.

I have seen this one on a site recently. s that the type of thing you're looking for???

There have been a few of the 50s coupe utes on Ebay over the past few weeks too but can't find any right now.

thanks for the reply cobba ! I live in the eastern suburbs of melbourne . I'm not sure what model the one i saw today was, but i guess it was like a very small truck with sides at the back and a tailgate that can be opened and closed like a ute !(I don't know much about trucks lol) Apparently it was early 60's! It had a similar front to the one in the link you posted... thanks again

karen - you may have to try google images or similar to see if you can find the make/model you are looking for. That will give us some idea of what you like.

That one I posted the link to is called a AA model made in 1960 or 61 (I think).
What you described would be a 110 series in a pick up truck.

Sorry if I confuse you with what I am about to describe. I only know how to talk bloke. lol

The AA model was what I would call a transition between 2 body styles. A few years later it had transformed into the truck that old AB has as his avatar, which is an AB and followed on by the C and D models using almost the same body over the 3 later models, although different fronts.

The model before had a very rounded style (which the AA carried thru with it's style to a certain extent) but the front guards sat out wider than the body, had single headlights and the bonnet hinged sideways. It also had a fibreglass grill (which the early AAs also had) that looked a bit like a sad face. This model was called an AS and was very similar to, and shared an almost common cab with it's 2 predecessors, the AR and the AL. All 3 models were Inters Australian models thru the 50s.

There's been a few of these come up on sale over the past few months. Worth looking for "Dodge" when searching as well. They shared a very similar cab design as well.

Cheers. Cobba.

Hi Karen - Have a look at this following historic trucks website, put together by a lady named Heather, from the West Gippsland Truck Club.
Down near the bottom of the pics, is a little red International, that is a 1964 AB110 model .. that probably represents something similar to what you saw.
You can click on these pics to get a full-screen view.
Try contacting this club, I'm sure one of the members will be willing to help you out.

Yes the one I saw was very similar to "old AB's" I'm not too fussy about which particular model, but would love it to have a tailgate. I photograph children, but specialise in vintage photography...( my website is www.shotfromtheheart.com ). I don't mind if its a bit banged up and rusty, as this adds to the character , it just need to be fairly safe. I LOVE the yellow one on the historic trucks blog ! thanks everyone for your input so far ::)

Kaz, if all you want to do is take pictures of kids sitting on one, you could ask a few of these guy's if they know of someone who has one that may let you use it for that purpose. Heaps cheaper than owning one yourself.
