AEC truck was created by dieselman
Hi all. Have been offered a bit of pommie iron in the terms of an AEC mammoth major??? bogie drive truck. This one is in reasonable condition for age and is 95% complete. I could not get any photos but is the same as an article in an old TRUCK and BUS regarding the haulage of uranium ore. Can anyone give a rough price for buying the old girl, shame to see it go to waste. Also a bit of info and what faults to look for.

The story of the uranium trucks got told in full by Tony Petch in a recent (July /Aug 2010)copy of Australian Bus magazine. The Truck & Bus you refer to was February 1960. These are the mk111 bonneted version. The bonnet got an updated style around 1958. They used either a 9.6 or 11.3 litre motor, both renowned for reliability and ease of cold starting. Check out the hunteroldtrucks.com web site and you will see similar ones on display, including a link to utube with commentry. If you don't want it some one in Newcastle will !!! Price is scrap value plus whatever an enormous and permanent grin is worth to you. My tipper was on full rego until 1980 and then spent 10 years on hourly rates so they can still do an honest days work. Even 2 yrs ago it shifted more dirt across paddocks than a 110 Scania on the same job. email me for more details and tell us where you are.

tell her with the AEC you won't have time to go chasing women/drinking or what ever it is that is worse.
Forgot to mention that if it has a working tipper body cockies might pay $5k for a strong truck like that if it drives ok. Still don't know where you are and still no piccys.

With type no. 4GM6RAT it is a mid 60s "Marshal" with full air brakes.Engine looks to be AVU470.Gearbox most likely G196.Last ones like this before the tilt cabs.
Nice truck, mate. The interior is particularly impressive.Suggests the rest is in as good general shape.

Welcome any info or pictures of 60s Australian AEC Mustangs (Leyland Comet lookalikes)

Further to the details; It is not a Mammoth at all but from the lighter range. The 6 wheeler was called the Marshall while the 4 wheeler was the Mercury, but called Monarch MKVl in Australia to avoid confusion/conflict with Fords. The chassis No in the photo is a description of type and the actual number will be along a bit. 1963 to 1965. The cab is Hastings Deering who were the importing agents at the time. Good brakes, good gears, Eaton diffs, and a good motor for it's size although head gaskets are likely to blow when pushed. You will see the 4 wheel version restored on the Hunter Valley web site. The cab skins were pop riveted and rivets can either corrode out of sight or work loose so they need to be checked. Workshop manuals are fairly easy to pick up on ebay. Don't let it slip out of your grasp.

Well it looks as if there will be an AEC parked next to the Flinstone in the shed. And yes the grin is HUGE. But have to wait 3 weeks before it comes home, the joy of being a rig mechanic. BUGGER
Thanks for all input from everyone.
