Hi Paul, That was a bit more real ,compared to the seven wonders of the industrial world show on the building of the dam .Looked like a cat d8h with hydraulic blade and rippers pushing the access road in on the Tv show. ian.

There has been another show on TV about the building that dam, it sure was not complimentary to the builders at all.

Hundreds of workers were killed on that job, labourers were treated as though they were a piece of toilet paper.

OK, they built a dam, but the cost was terrible.

yes greenie you are right, the dam was built in the thirtys just at the beginning of the great depression. perfect time for the government to exploit cheap abundant labour. i visited the dam in 97 and it was well worth it. i also bought the video which has alot of great footage of the construction and its amazing what they could acheive back then. there is one thing for certain though, what the government says and what would have really happened are two different things. it would have been a case of if you dont want to do what we say then we will get the next man.
