How many times has it been said..we should do a run one weekend..?
How many times has it not happened?
After a bit of discussion with me ol mate Crackas, we decided to get something happening..
Deciding about 15 would be a comfortable number of trucks and passengers.
A heap of names went into a bucket and were drawn out accordingly..
There was no 'official' plan to follow, other than we would be headed through Ballarat around 9am Saturday.
Three of us left Geelong, collected two more in Ballarat, plus a passenger for the ol blue truck..
On to Avoca to collect another one, then through to Charlton to collect a few more..
A few coffees and a bite to eat at the roadhouse and we were off again..
On the way, we called into an Ol Mates and checked out some ol gear before the final run to Boort.
Arriving at Boort, the preparation was impeccable.
True McCracken style! Everything in order, no stone left unpolished!
There was a marquee setup with plenty of tucker for the boys to nibble on, while a few pre dinner beverages were consumed whilst having a warm by some pre prepared fire drums..
The afternoon came and went and it was off on a short walk to the local for some tea..
A couple of fizzys ordered and it was time to dip into the bucket of names once more, this time the name selected would see that person take home a nice prize, donated by our fellow Boort Runners..
Good on ya Geffry!
Following a great meal at a reasonable price, we headed back to our fires for a bit more of a yarn and some tea and coffee, prior to retiring..
Sunday morning saw everyone bright eyed and bushy tailed and we congregated for a magnificent breakfast..
Big THANK YOU again to everyone....What a spread..
I think there was a bit of hesitation to start your engines drivers..
Most were unsure of start up in the brisk conditions beside the lake..
I think I was the most confident..I knew mine wouldn't start!
The Ol Gillyman supplied a couple of,..here ya go chocs, I knew this was gunna happen batteries..and the mighty Cummins lept into life...Long time since the starter had spun that fast...Thanks Ol Mate..you too Richard muscleman, who carried the said batteries, by hand, about 5 kilometres to where I was parked..Well 50 yards anyway..i was trying to build the story a bit..
We were all up and running and soon headed out the road a bit to see Ol John the spanner man..
This bloke is nothing short of incredible..
He has used something like 95000 spanners to create these amazing works of art.
We spent a few hours wandering around the various sculptures, that were set amongst the beautiful surroundings of John and Sonja's home.
This is an absolute 'must see' should you ever get within 5000 miles of Boort, (Victoria).
Back into town to collect our trailers and stow some gear and we were almost ready for the trip home.
Crackas and I had a pre arranged appointment with some paint brushes and a McGrath Trailer sign, so that filled in our next half hour..
A few goodbyes and we were off in our separate directions for our run home.
What a great weekend..I'm sure we will do a few more too..
Thanks everyone..
What a great bunch of jokers to spend a few days with..
Certainly one to write into the 'Top Trips' book..
chocs
Ok heres a few picks from the weekend..

Chocs thanks for another fantastic recollection of what must have been a Great weekend.
In time these will be the stories that you pass on again to the newbies on the scene and they will hang on to your every word just like we do to today's legends when they tell us stories from the past.
Keep em cumin mate can never get enough.

She was a top weekend alright... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Didn't take a whole lot of putting together either really..
A few phone calls, a couple of emails and it was all go.
I am sure there are plenty of blokes out there just itchin to get their Ol Rockets out and go for a drive...
All you have to do is get a few heads together and make yourself a run..
Doesn't have to be a thousand mile dash, doesn't have to be an overnight stay...
Doesn't have to be anything in particular....
Just a few jokers, doin there own thing and enjoying the day....
