Back in the late '50s, early sixties my old man drove an NR for Collins Bros in Bowraville. It had been repowered with a 600 Leyland. There were a few other NRs about and Ron Neaves of Macksville had one with a 671 and a D series Bedford cab. Thought it was a cool bit of gear at the time compared to the old man's unit. Most of the ones on the North Coast had been fitted with the Blitz roof to replace the canvas.

After a chassis replacement and a cab tidy up. dad replaced the front guards with some off an EH Mack. The old ones were beyond repair.

There must have been a million Bedfords on the road here in the sixties and seventies.I still see a local scrappy with an old blue KGL,so it must get thru yearly inspection. They never fitted a tilt cab while the trucks were on the market here.GM replaced the brand with Isuzu.

.600.........The NR mack was a bonnetted truck.........when Roy (and the blokes that actually built these )
set them up for low loader work ,,a bonnett was not an option......they had to be cab over for length etc
Apparently the Bedford cab was the best option,,,,,although working on the donk was a bit of a challenge
as one and a half heads were in the cab,,,the rest out the back..
the cab was not a tilt job,,,,,it was bolted solid to the chassis . plus the old mack cab was a bit of an
open air job.........

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

Where did the name Antill Ranger come from. Always saw their trucks on the road but never thought about the origins of the name. Swallowed by Maynes from memory?
