Volvo N10 SSHD Diffs on Hendrickson

Volvo F12 12515 Gearbox SSHD diffs on Hendricksons. The Wolleng lowloader is the predercessor of the well known Brentwood. It was first registered behind the Transtar and because of the length limits at the time it was constructed so the rear axle and part of the trailer was hinged so it could be flipped over and be legal length. After registering the axle was left down. The trailer only had springs on the centre axle and never suffered a broken spring despite some very large loads it carried.

Typo The Transtar was a 4070A Model.

1989 International T2670 T Line was used to carry Magnatite from Coleman's bulk storage shed to coal mines and BHP.. The magnatite was used in the process to wash coal. This truck was sold to Baines Concrete at Woonona in 1997 who paited it red and coupled a 2 axle dog trailer and used it for many years. I heard it was sold to someone near Temora and was using it on the Hume Hwy upgrade.

Colemans 1st Kenworth 1990. A K100E 444 Cummins Direct 14715 Gearbox 48,000lb 2 speed Eatons on KW big 6 suspension.

Using a dolly borrowed from Cleary Bros, Colemans moved this crane for Allied Constructions to Orange NSW. Phil moved Allied's gear for over 40 years.

Coleman's 2nd new Kenworth was brought in 1990 but was built in 1989 for Hunts of Manangle who cancelled their order. A K100E 444 Cummins Overdrive 14715 Gearbox SSHD on KW Big 6 Suspension

Another truck purchased as the result of a cancelled order, I think for Max Dunbier of Bulkhaul. The 1989 T400 was purchased in 1990 and fitted with L10 Cummins rated at 300 hp, 13 speed gearbox and SSHD on Hendrickson suspension. A very rough ride.

2 1989 T600 was purchased new in 1990 . Both were a cancelled order from J.L. Pierce. They origanally had roof mounted air deflectors and were removed as the height of the trucks would stop them entering some of the sheds that Coleman's often picked up from. 365 Cummins 9 speed gearbox SSHD on KW Big 6 Suspension. One was sold about 1999 to Allied Plant Services who removed the sleeper cab and painted it white and used it to tow their Des -Vac (a Giant vacuum cleaner) mainly around the steelworks.

L710 Kenworth L10 Cummins rated at 250 hp and later upgraded to 300hp when Coleman.s coupled up a 2 axle dog trailer. 9 speed gearbox and SSHD diffs on Hendrickson suspension. It came with a cable shift gearstick which always felt stiff and binding. I think this truck ended up near Goulbourn NSW

XSPANRMAN,
Just a quick thanks for posting the Coleman photos.
Really appreciate the way you gave each truck a bit of brief history as well as their running gear, makes it a lot more interesting, especially for those who may have only passed them on the road or seen them parked up somewhere.
All too often we see something interesting posted up on these type of forums, and unless you know a bit of it's history and/or it's specifications, your'e left scratching your head or you have to write in for further info.
Not nit-picking guys, don't want to know every nut and bolt that is on the build sheet/line setting ticket, but just a simple short resume goes a long way.
Thanks, Dave_64

P. B. Coleman also had a small fleet of cranes. The early ones were non.slewing with rear overhanging jibs, mounted on truck chassis.

Coles crane built at Revesby NSW. AEC 505 motor. ZF gearbox, 3 speed joey box and Rockwell diffs and fitted with BPW brakes. The rear suspension was Hendrickson walking beam but in place of springs, a fabricated bracket connected it to the chassis. This crane broke the front diff axle housing due to the lack of suspension.

One of two identical Coles cranes. AEC 505 motor, RT613 Gearbox and 34,000lb Rockwell diffs.

Coles crane . 555 Cummins motor. RT9509 gearbox , 38,000lb diffs. Hendrickson walking beam suspension with springs.

Coles 27/30T crane. Turbocharged 555Cummins, RTO 9509 gearbox and 40,000lb Eaton diffs.

Boland crane . Built at Parramatta Rd Lidcombe NSW. 6.354 Perkins motor, RT510 gearbox. 3 speed David Brown joey box, NR Mack front and rear axles, a massive Powauto PTO that was almost the same size as the gearbox, ZF power steering and Kysor radiator shutterstats and Kienzle tachograph. Boland Cranes put all the goodies available at the time to build cranes for their own use. Coleman's used this crane on permanent hire at South Bulli Mine loading the rail wagons for underground.
