I know there is a time difference between Oz and here, but I didn't think it also affected decades.
I was taught that a decade has ten years.

So far 9 years are complete in this decade which started on 1st January 2001.

So the next decade begins on 1st January 2011 ?

But I Do Stand To Be Corrected

We are just going to have to agree to disagree.

When you are born it takes 12 months to become 1 - I agree with you.
When you are 9 it takes another 12 months before you are 10 ?
Therefore on the 31st December 2009, 2009 years have passed, therefore its is another 365 days before you have completed 2010 and completed a decade.

A New decade cannot start until the old one has finished.

To look at it another way.
31st December 2009, 2009 years have passed
1 day later ......
1st January 2010, 2009 years and 1 day have passed.

I think I have explained that correctly ?

These are the mathematical facts, but I will agree this goes against convention,and most people will disagree with my theory.

I do not want this to end up as an argument.
But my theory makes you think doesn't it .

Hi, I think Roland is right. Billy is 1st for 2010, but not 1st for new decade. We have only completed 9 years of this new century. I know time flies as we get older and while were havin fun, but I dont wont it to go any faster than it has to. Regards Jeffro

My youngest was born on 31/12/89 at 10 pm and he turned 20 on 31/12/2009 at 10 pm.

If he was born 2 hours later 1/1/90 then he would have turned 20 on 1/1/2010.

So with that theory. 1/1/2000 the decade finished 1/1/2010 ie:10 years

This is a argument that keeps us all amused and stops the bordom.
