Looked at hundreds, maybe a thousand, heavy lift set-ups and can't find long flat units with a central unsupported load for nearly the distance we are talking about. They may well be out there but I can't find them.
You will be interested in this unit. This is the longest flat trailer I can find without rigid load or spreader beams onto the outer unit. Suppose it depends on the weight whether distance is possible.
Most interesting is the way the hydraulic suspension works to keep the tray flat. I remember watching a house removalist in Brisbane about 15 years ago with a similar unit carrying a whole house out of a rough, sloping block up onto the road while keeping the whole ungainly show perfectly level all the time.

Lang, like you, I'm still in the dark as to how this thing would work, but different to your observation of the trailer, the lifted wheels are in a pattern. Three down, one up, three down one up etc. Would seem an odd coincidence to get such evenly spaced flats.

Yes you are right. Aren't these combination things in IQ tests?
Maybe something to do with helping it get around corners a bit better?

Guys
Yanky Land
is an old established country
we in Au R in a relitavely new country
the Yanks have a very old hwy & bridge system compared to Au
they have big loads spread over a long distance to spread the load on there bridges
all todo with bridge formulas
WAG
the above load needed it spread over a long distance (1st axle to Last axle)
think out loud they have different load limits on certain Rd n Fwy all to do with Wnter Summer conditions
A few axles missin here
Thay can also join the platform trailers side by side

I pretend to understand the platform trailer n its capabilities
but me can't get me head around wot they call a Euro Dolly
Looks like the trailer deck is connected to the dolly n it relies on the dolly steer n to cnr
spose B Ok in a straight rd or gradual bend in the rd
WotSezU?

Looks to me like the directional axles - not really a dolly - are there to take the weight and the truck just has a "towball" or a basically non-load bearing turntable.
When a normal dog turns, the front axles turn on a pivot point (turntable) and the tow bar follows the truck. Some trailers like airport luggage trolleys have the tow bar hooked to a normal tie rod car steering and the front wheels actually turn like a car. This keeps the axle across the trailer as a normal dog tow system can finish up at right angles and easy to tip over. By having a car-type steering system the trailer can be lower because the front axle and wheels do not have to rotate under the trailer.
The beaut system you have looks like the truck can swing up to 90% to the trailer and the wheels just individually rotate to follow keeping the full support right across the width of the trailer at all times. A normal dolly would do this too (pivoting around a central turntable) but it requires a long high bridge to reach from the platform to the turntable to allow the whole dolly to rotate under the gooseneck. Your system is considerably shorter and very importantly, you can back it easily unlike multi dolleys.
Just a WAG but thats what I see.

Good video
Looks like my theory is correct. The truck is carrying SFA. Easy backing. The rear axles turning are a bonus.

They are called Eurocombi the axle suspension hydraulics and the goose neck lift cylinder are linked allowing the weight to share between the axles on the trailer and the truck axles. Steering is controlled by hydraulic cylinders connected to the turntable passing oil to cylinders attached to the axle. And yes they work reasonably well however, there is a marked improvement in performance when coupled to a VOLVO .
