The most unpopular "improvement" was to run the airbox drains back into the motor......Id say 99% of the drains were disconnected and run back into the open air......or catch cans that would be forgotten and simply spill over onto the road.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

That sounds like the message Telstra gave me today. They are going to "simplify and improve" my $29 per month plan to a $45 per month plan.

Im pretty sure they got the 2 stroke as clean on the outside as any other engine in the end
Someone else will no better than me
I'm guessing the catch can is like anything, only as good as the operator

So been mulling this over in my brain, I do this often
John you mention the drains for air box back into the sump were disconnected on most
Were these ever working effectively ?
I gather they would be
Iike a non return valve so if it all went pare shaped and it ran away it couldn't suck the oil back into the motor
And if the drain was into the top of the sump could it even suck back into the motor as the oil would be bellow the drain wouldnt it ?
Paul

Paul the air box drains to the crank case had a check valve that closed when the air box pressure increased as engine revs increased- only drained air box oil to the crank case at idle revs. But like JOHN.K. reckons they were not all that successful as the check valve could clog up & cause other issues. When there is an excessive amount of oil in the air box you will hear the engine detonating at idle from the oil being used as a fuel-some people who convert a GM powered bus to a motor home are guilty of allowing their engine to idle excessively causing the oil in the air box to build up and then feed the engine, plus they smoke like shit and annoy other road users and Greta. So I gather then that GM's mostly slobber at idle
The reason behind my thinking is that in the U.S. were they have freeways from side to side and top to bottom the US trucks get out and not stop running for the day or night, especially back in 70's and 80's
