If you examine the axle caps, there is a name cast on them .. that will be good to find out, to assist with ID. Could be Malco, McGrath, Freighter or Fruehauf .. they all look very similar. It's a strap trailer, a common design with early semi-builders. A lot of trailers have a cast plate with the brand name on them, somewhere. Sometimes you can find the outline of where it's been.
Poor old girl has had a long hard life .. it looks like she's been carrying dozers. There's more curves in the coamings and crossmembers than Kylie Minogue. He's a bit rich with his $2500, I'd reckon, for the condition. She needs a lot of repair metal.

Looks like McGrath axles, it's worth 5/8ths unless your in love with it. Looks like it wieghs 3 or 4 tonne, multiply that by the price of scrap. Offer him a Grand and leave your number. Be a good trailer for a cocky that doesn't care about rego, brakes etc. If you've got to spend anything on it after you paid $2,500 for it, you may as well buy a good one. 40 footers are getting a bit obselete now, and you can pick them up pretty cheap if your in the right place at the right time.

As previous threads would attest putting on a new floor (which that looks like it needs), either steel of timber ain't cheap. The suspension units on that one are welded straight onto the chassis, rather than on a sub frame, which would suggest it was a cheap home built job. Even basic trailers are sought after by cockies which keeps the price up. If you look at the cost of installing a steel floor, upgrade brakes to maxi etc etc a decent bogie for $5k is good buying. The straps are good for the low powered single drive prime movers on account of their low weight so don't dismiss them, just get a good one.
