My husband has just bought himself a 1984 Western Star tipper truck. It needs a knew starter, but he doesn't know if it's 12 or 24volt. The guages work off 12 volt, and somebody told us it has a 24 volt starter. He tried another 24v starter, but it's not clicking in properly. Can anyone please tell me what the battery setup is for the truck. He seems to think it could be the battery setup that's wrong.
Thanks.

As far as I know they are all 12 volt. If it is 24 volt start and 12 volt for the rest of the truck, there will be a series parrallel switch mounted very close to the batterries. I reckon it will be 12 volt though. Maquarrie had brand new starters for about $600 a while ago, I don't know if they still have.
